Expanding access, driving product innovation and strengthening liquidity across European derivatives markets
Euronext has been named European Growth Exchange of the Year at the GlobalCapital Derivatives Awards 2026, recognising its commitment to building a more integrated, accessible and resilient European derivatives marketplace. The award recognises Euronext's continued focus on product innovation, broader market participation, expansion into new asset classes and investment in market infrastructure.
Growing the derivatives business through innovation
As part of its Innovate for Growth 2027 strategic plan, Euronext continues to develop its derivatives business through product innovation, broader market participation and scalable infrastructure.
Over the past year, Euronext has expanded its offering with the launch of Mini Equity Options, Mini ETF Options, End-of-Month Index Options, Mini Bond Futures and Euronext Nord Pool Power Futures. These initiatives have broadened its product range across asset classes and created additional opportunities for market participants to access listed derivatives and manage risk through transparent markets.
In 2025, Euronext recorded average daily volumes of 464,636 lots in equity derivatives and 115,342 lots in commodities, demonstrating the scale and diversity of its multi-asset marketplace.
Expanding access and retail participation
Making listed derivatives more accessible remains a key focus for Euronext. Through collaboration with brokers, market makers, issuers and investors, the Group develops products designed to meet evolving market needs and broaden participation.
Since launch, Mini Equity Options have recorded more than 650,000 contracts traded and attracted 35 counterparties. Euronext has also introduced Mini ETF Options and End-of-Month Index Options on the CAC 40® and AEX® indices, giving investors additional tools to manage risk and market exposure through transparent listed markets.
Retail participation is another important part of Euronext's derivatives strategy. In the Netherlands, retail investors account for 82% of trades in Single Stock Options and 79% of trades in Individual Index Derivatives, reflecting growing engagement with listed derivatives.
Euronext complements its product offering with investor education and engagement. Since 2024, the Group has organised more than 60 educational webinars in five languages, reaching over 20,000 participants through partnerships with retail brokers, financial media and investor associations.
Developing fixed income and energy derivatives markets
Euronext has broadened its derivatives offering beyond equities with the launch of Mini Bond Futures on major European government bonds, including Italian BTPs, French OATs, German Bunds and Spanish Bonos.
With smaller contract sizes, these products are designed to provide institutional and retail investors with additional flexibility in managing interest rate exposure. Since launch, Mini Bond Futures have recorded more than 60,000 contracts traded and attracted 12 participating counterparties.
Euronext has also expanded into Nordic and Baltic energy derivatives with the launch of Euronext Nord Pool Power Futures, establishing a dedicated marketplace for these contracts.
The migration included the successful transfer of 100% of open interest, representing 173 TWh, while maintaining business continuity for market participants. All contracts are traded on the Optiq® platform and cleared through Euronext Clearing, providing a single access point for trading and risk management in Nordic and Baltic power markets.
Investing in integrated trading and clearing infrastructure
Euronext's derivatives growth is supported by its integrated market infrastructure, combining the Optiq® trading platform with Euronext Clearing.
This model provides consistent access across Euronext markets and supports efficient execution, risk management and capital efficiency. By bringing trading and clearing together, Euronext continues to support liquidity growth and innovation across its derivatives offering.
Supporting the development of European capital markets
Euronext’s recognition as the European Growth Exchange of the Year at this year’s GlobalCapital Derivatives Awards is a testament to the Group’s ongoing efforts to expand its derivatives business across products, markets and participant groups.
Through product innovation, expanded market access, growth across asset classes and continued investment in infrastructure, Euronext continues to build deeper and more accessible liquidity pools while supporting the development of more competitive and resilient European capital markets.
