This initiative contributes to enhancing transparency in financial markets and to the democratisation of access to reliable ESG data. It forms part of Euronext’s support for issuers at all stages of their ESG journey to accelerate the transition to a European economy aligned with a 1.5-degree trajectory. It is thus at the heart of Euronext’s strategy to shape capital markets for future generations.

Why ESG matters for investors

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors have become essential considerations for investors seeking responsible and sustainable investment opportunities. As global awareness of climate change, social responsibility and corporate governance grows, integrating ESG criteria into investment strategies is increasingly seen as a way to manage risk and drive long-term value. Euronext ESG Profiles have been developed to help investors assess and compare the ESG activities of listed companies, providing a reliable foundation for informed decision-making.

The profiles support a range of investment approaches, from broad ESG screening to detailed company analysis and engagement.

ESG metrics and data

Standardised ESG metrics for comparability

One of the main challenges for investors interested in ESG is the lack of consistency in how companies report their sustainability activities. Euronext ESG Profiles address this by presenting key ESG data in a standardised format across all companies listed on Euronext markets, including cash equities, derivatives and indices. This standardisation makes it easier for investors to compare companies within and across sectors, identify leaders in sustainability and spot areas for improvement. The profiles cover a wide range of ESG metrics, including governance structures, board diversity, environmental policies, carbon emissions, energy consumption, social initiatives and workforce composition.

Core ESG information published by Euronext

Euronext ESG Profiles feature a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative data sourced directly from listed companies. Quantitative metrics include greenhouse gas emissions, energy usage, water consumption and waste management, while qualitative information covers policies, targets and achievements. Governance indicators such as board independence, gender diversity and executive remuneration are included, alongside social metrics like employee engagement, health and safety, community involvement and supply chain standards. The profiles also highlight alignment with recognised frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), ensuring investors have access to credible and comparable ESG information.

Enriching ESG profiles with additional disclosures

Euronext recognises that ESG is a dynamic field, and companies may wish to provide more detail about their sustainability journey. Listed companies can enrich their ESG Profiles by adding further disclosures, case studies, certifications and updates on progress towards sustainability goals. This flexibility allows companies to showcase unique initiatives, such as participation in voluntary carbon offset programmes, adoption of circular economy principles or engagement with local communities. For investors, these enriched profiles offer deeper insights into a company’s ESG strategy and commitment.

Reliable ESG data directly from the source

In today’s investment landscape, the importance of reliable and comparable ESG data cannot be overstated. Euronext ESG Profiles are sourced directly from listed companies and verified against recognised standards, ensuring accuracy and consistency. By providing a single point of access to ESG information across its markets, Euronext supports the growth of sustainable finance and helps investors drive positive change through their investment choices.

Over 60,000 ESG data points available on Euronext Live Markets

Each profile contains a standardised ESG data section powered by Euronext and its data partner. Around 30 key ESG indicators were screened against issuers’ annual reports and other publications.

These indicators are sourced from key European regulations such as the EU Taxonomy, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scopes 1, 2, 3), GHG intensity, carbon footprint, board gender diversity, gender pay gap, energy intensity, emissions to water, hazardous waste and share of non-renewable energy consumption and production. The data also includes information on the eligibility and alignment of companies' turnover, OpEx, and CapEx with the EU Taxonomy.

With this initiative, Euronext places non-financial data on the same level as financial data, with the ambition to increase the accessibility of the key ESG data points published by its issuers.

Issuers have the option to upload additional information to their profiles through Euronext’s customer portal, including ESG achievements and goals, documents, ESG ratings and contact details. They can also choose not to display an ESG profile. Before the launch, issuers were given six weeks to review and enrich their profiles to have them ready for publication.
