Listing on Euronext of the first EU Green Bond from a public sector issuer

  • €1 billion raised by Île-de-France Mobilités
  • First bond aligned with the European EU Green Bond Standard issued by a public entity

Paris – 31 January 2025 – Euronext today congratulates the admission by Île-de-France Mobilités of the first Green Bond issued by a public entity aligned with the new European EU Green Bond Standard on Euronext Paris. With this inaugural admission of an EU Green Bond, Euronext reaffirms its support to stakeholders committed to the sustainable transition and its position as a leader in the sustainable bond market.

As the transport authority for the Île-de-France region, Île-de-France Mobilités manages one of the most extensive transport networks in the world, handling nearly 9.5 million journeys every day. To ensure carbon-free mobility by 2030, Île-de-France Mobilités has been undertaking Europe’s most ambitious program since 2016 to renew its rolling stock.

The one billion euros raised through this issuance will finance projects aligned with the European taxonomy defining sustainable activities. These projects will include, in particular, the renewal and renovation of electric rolling stock (trains, undergrounds, tram-trains, trams) and electric bikes, as well as the development of associated infrastructure.

Green Bonds play a central role in financing the sustainable transition, allocating significant amounts (1 trillion euros per year) to predefined sustainable projects. The EU Green Bond Standard, which came into effect on 21 December 2024 and aligns with the European Taxonomy for sustainable activities, aims to establish a rigorous framework for these issuances, thus becoming a mark of quality and credibility for these instruments.

The EU Green Bond Standard ensures full transparency both before and after the issuance, as well as enhanced oversight of these operations. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) will be responsible for overseeing the certifiers providing assessments on these products.

Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region, chair of Île-de-France Mobilités, said: “Revolutionising transport in Île-de-France has been my top priority. To this end, we have launched an unparalleled programme to renovate and modernise one of the largest transport networks in the world. The transport system in Île-de-France must play a leading role in tackling the climate challenge, establishing itself as a benchmark for decarbonised mobility by 2030. Being the first public issuer in the world to launch a €1 billion  Green Bond under the ‘EuGB’ Standard is both a proud achievement and a testament to the strength of our vision.”

Thanks to one of the largest public transport networks in the world, Ile-de-France Mobilités is the daily partner of those living in Ile-de-France as well as tourists. With its operators, it provides 9.4 million trips every day (1,500 bus routes, 41 train lines and a metro network that will double in size by 2030).
