Sector Focus

The Tech sector

Innovative companies are of premium importance for our economies. They foster growth, create jobs and can help improve our everyday way of life.

At Euronext, we understand the critical importance of establishing a favourable environment for these companies to help sustaining growth. Capital markets and stock exchanges can be seen as a financing tool for entrepreneurs seeking to raise capital or venture capitalists in need of co-investors or exit opportunities.

A market for Tech companies

Our market is a meeting place for a large community of 380 companies from more than 10 different countries representing a total market capitalisation of €850 billion, from multi-national blue chips to promising R&D start-ups. It comprises companies in the fields of digital, media, telecommunications, healthcare, smart technology and clean technology (cleantech).

EnterNext, our subsidiary dedicated to SMEs, is home to 320 tech companies from sectors including technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), life sciences and cleantech, and the number is growing rapidly as innovative companies continue to join our markets to finance their R&D and growth.

In 2014 alone:

  • 26 new companies joined the growing community of 320 tech growth issuers on Euronext’s markets
  • €1.7 billion in capital was raised by Euronext’s tech community in 2014 (up 70% on the previous year) at a total valuation of over €40 billion, making Euronext the leading Eurozone venue for high-growth tech companies.

The tech sector is attractive to both European and US investors, as demonstrated by the doubling in trading volumes in 2014 and the investor demand in new placements from both institutional and retail investors, regularly oversubscribed several times.

Euronext has set up three key initiatives to sustain growth in the tech sector and facilitate access to Euronext markets for entrepreneurs.
