History

What began in the harbours of Amsterdam has grown into a lively and international trade in shares at Beursplein 5. In the early 1900s, hundreds of traders stood on the trading floor. Now, you can buy shares from around the world with a single click on your phone. Yet the Amsterdam stock exchange remains the heart of the Dutch capital market.

Learning

During the ‘Investing’ course, students learn the basic principles of investing, which they can immediately apply at the end of the tour in the Investors Game. This allows them to test their skills and put their knowledge into practice.

Located in the historic stock exchange building at Beursplein 5, the AEX Experience offers a story that can only be told in this unique setting.

What can you expect from the AEX Experience?

Introduce your students to the history of the Amsterdam stock exchange and the evolution of share trading. Equipped with tablets, they will uncover the secrets of Beursplein 5, of course including a visit to the trading floor.

An interactive tour

Visit the world-famous trading floor and experience the dynamic atmosphere at the heart of the Dutch capital market. During the tour, you will hear inspiring stories about the past and learn how the stock exchange operates today.

History with a modern twist

Discover how Amsterdam became the birthplace of the stock exchange and the role the Netherlands played in the development of investing. Learn about the significance of the AEX index for listed companies.

Step into the role of a trader

Step into the shoes of a trader and participate in the Investors Game using fictitious money you have earned. Experience what it is like to make decisions based on the latest news and discover what it takes to invest successfully. 

Educational depth

This experience is specially designed for students aged 15-20. Through videos, quizzes and examples, you will gain greater insight into how investing works and why it is relevant for your future…

Practical information about your visit

Duration
approx. 60-75 minutes 

Group size
Maximum 25-30 students per visit. One adult supervisor is required for every 15 pupils.

Language
Available at two educational levels, in two different languages: Dutch and in English. (English from September 2026.)

Ticket
The tour costs EUR 250 per group.

Access and accessibility Beursplein 5

The AEX Experience is located at Beursplein 5 in Amsterdam. The experience is easily accessible by public transport. The stock exchange building is a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. 
Practical facilities are available, including a coat room with individual lockers.

The experience can be made wheelchair accessible upon request.
