Fokker Services wins Flight Award for FUTURE® programmes

Fokker Services, part of Stork Aerospace, has won the Aerospace Industry Award in the category ‘Air Transport’ presented by the leading aviation magazine Flight International. The awarding - announced yesterday evening during the Paris Air Show 2005 in Paris - relates to the way in which Stork has returned grounded Fokker 100 and Fokker 50 aircraft to operation through the FUTURE programmes.

Since the start of the FUTURE® programmes, early 2003, over 150 Fokker 100s and more than 60 Fokker 50s have been placed with new and existing operators around the world. Very few aircraft of both types are still available for immediate sale or lease.

The FUTURE® program has basically been a concerted effort by Fokker Services, Rolls-Royce and major stakeholders in the aircraft to remarket all available Fokker 50 and 100s. This has been achieved through various partnerships with major vendors, ensuring long term continued support at competitive pricing, extensive cooperation with aircraft lessors / sellers and a wide range of activities to lower cost-of-ownership for the operator. These cost-cutting activities include improved logistic programmes, lower component repair costs, a much increased use of web-based technology as well as company-wide cost-reduction measures.

Part of the FUTURE® programmes has been the focus on aircraft applications other than airliners. Substantial market demand has driven the development of a maritime surveillance conversion of the Fokker 50 and a number of aircraft are now in use. In addition, 3 Fokker 50s have been converted to full freighters, operating in Europe and Asia, with more committed to follow. Fokker 100s can be converted to Executive Jet versions (F100EJ), which include an auxiliary fuel tank system to extend the range to 6,000 km (3,200 nm). The first Memorandum of Understanding has been signed.

Both the Fokker 50 and Fokker 100 are modern, cost-effective aircraft with excellent performance characteristics, backed by comprehensive support. The Fokker 50 is currently being operated by 35 operators worldwide. The fleet has amassed more than 5 million landings. The Fokker 100 fleet is being operated by 34 operators around the globe and has accumulated 7.5 million landings. Both types, on average, have used less than a third of their design life of 90,000 landings.

Continued, competitive support for close to 900 Fokker aircraft around the world remains the main mission of Fokker Services, ensuring a long future of these aircraft.

Stork Aerospace develops and produces advanced components and systems for the aviation and aerospace industry, and supplies integrated services and products to aircraft owners and operators. The group achieved a turnover of € 495 million in 2004 with 3,182 employees out of the total Stork turnover of €1.82 billion.
