Amsterdam expiry cycle

Amsterdam contract specifications have been standardised to improve derivatives trading at Euronext.liffe. As part of this, with effect from 20 October 2003, Euronext.liffe’s Amsterdam marketplace has changed the expiry cycle for Dutch equity and index option classes from the January, April, July, October (JAJO) quarterly cycle to the March, June, September, December (MJSD) quarterly cycle. Following the introduction of the MJSD expiry cycle, all equity options listed on Euronext.liffe will have the same expiry cycle. Index futures have also migrated to the new expiry cycle.

Long-term series

The expiry month for long-term series changed when the MJSD expiry cycle was introduced. Series with an initial lifetime of two years and five years will expire in December instead of October. When long-term series expiring in October 2004, October 2005, October 2006 and October 2007 are already listed, new long-term series in the December cycle will be introduced starting with the December 2008 expiry month.

Introduction schedule

New expiry months will be introduced under the MJSD cycle. The introduction schedule of new expiry months can be found in the spreadsheet “New Expiry Months in Amsterdam”.
