Glossary
  • MiFID
    Markets in Financial Instruments Directive : Directive 2004/39/EC
  • The Four Level Lamfalussy Proces:
    Level 1 measures set out the high level objectives that the legislation must achieve.
    Level 2 measures set out some of the technical requirements necessary to achieve these objectives.
    Level 3 measures are intended to ensure common and uniform implementation by the use (amongst others) of common interpretative guidance and standards agreed amongst regulators in CESR.
    Level 4 measures relate to the enforcement of the legislation.

  • Regulated market
    Multilateral system operated and/or managed by a market operator, which brings together or facilitates the bringing together of multiple third-party buying and selling interests in financial instruments – in the system and in accordance with its nondiscretionary rules – in a way that results in a contract, in respect of the financial instruments admitted to trading under its rules and/or systems, and which is authorised and functions regularly.

  • Systematic internaliser
    An investment firm, which on an organised, frequent and systematic basis, deals on own account by executing client orders outside a regulated market or multilateral trading facility.

  • MTF
    Multilateral Trading Facility. A multilateral system, operated by an investment firm or market operator, bringing together multiple, third-party buying and selling interests in financial instruments.

  • Host Member State
    Member State, other than the home Member State, in which an investment firm has a branch or performs services and/or activities or the Member State in which a regulated market provides appropriate arrangements so as to facilitate access to trading on its system by remote members or participants established in that same Member State.

  • Competent authority
    Authority, designated by each Member State.
