Sonae Capital is a Portuguese holding company with controlling interests in two different business areas: Sonae Turismo and Spred.
Sonae Turismo develops businesses in the following areas:
- Resort and Residential Property Development – Development (design and construction), management and marketing & sales of high quality touristic resorts and residential property;
- Real Estate Asset Management – Services related to land and real estate property;
- Touristic Operations – Property and management of Hotels, with an integrated offer of services (SPA, Catering and Events, Congress Centre, Food Court and parking) and Health Clubs management.
Spred is focused on investment in majority or minority shareholdings in three different areas:
- Seed & Venture Capital - Identify and manage new growth opportunities and strategic options for Sonae Capital;
- Joint Ventures - Businesses held or intended to be held as Joint Ventures with specialized partners, and businesses that, in spite of having Sonae Capital as their sole shareholder, are managed under a Joint Venture philosophy (leveraging the know how and networking of specialized partners);
- Financial Shareholdings – Aggregate interests in companies held merely as financial investments.
Sonae SGPS is the mother company and it is a holding company that controls and actively manages a portfolio of businesses with a focus on the consumer, divided into three branches: retail, shopping centres and telecommunications. The various Group companies are run in an independent manner, by a fully dedicated management team that develops strategies focused on their own key value-adding drivers.
Retail:
Largest food retailer in Portugal, operating in two formats: (i) food retail, including the hypermarkets Continente, mini-hypermarkets Modelo and supermarkets Modelo Bonjour; and (ii) non-food retail, with ten formats, the most significant being Worten, consumer electronics, and Sports Zone, sporting goods.
Shopping centres:
International shopping centre specialist, with an integrated approach to the business that includes: development, ownership, and management activities – asset management and property management.
Telecommunications:
Integrated telecommunications group, with a complete range of mobile and fixed communications services to residential and corporate customers in Portugal; presence in the Media and Software and System Information sectors.
